Tips on how to travel well with Kids on safari

Tips on how to travel well with Kids on safari : Traveling with kids on safari can be a wonderful, exciting, fun filled and memorable adventure, because you get to explore the wild with your little ones, teaching them and opening their eyes to various possibilities among other things. However, a safari like this requires some good planning and preparation for it to come out as fun as you anticipate it.  That’s why here below we share some tips with you on how to travel well with kids on safari; –

First of all, you need to partner with the best tour operators, who can effectively help you plan and coordinate a good family-friendly safari for you and the kids. Make sure as you choose activities and destinations you have considered the ages and interests of your children, so that everyone’s needs and desires are catered for.

Of course, even you as an adult consider you needs and desires, you have to enjoy yourself. Make sure the accommodation choices you made work for families lest you reach a facility can not accommodate you and your whole crew. If you have infants and toddlers, make sure you have all their essential like diapers, purzifiers, formula, toys, books etc. Applies for teenagers too, carry things that will spice up their Tanzania safari.

Safari drives can be long drives so plan on ways to keep the children engaged on the way so that they don’t get irritable. Have things like fun illustrated books to read – you can have map books of the place you are visiting so they relate the book to the places they interact with, bring along games and tabs or phones to help ease the long drive.

Because you are with kids, try and take breaks / stops during the drive to refresh, kill the boredom and build more enthusiasm for the journey ahead; make sure these planned stops are planned and at beautiful places, they can also be a part of your safari and educational.

With kids, always have water, soft drinks and a ton of snacks lest you will hear cries of hunger every 10 mins if not 5. On the drive you can also use the time to get into intimate conservations with your children, or enlightened them about the destination, so that, that kills the time spent on the long drive.

Though it’s a safari drive and we may be letting loose, please make sure safety measures are taken like everyone having seatbelts on and toddlers in car seats during the drives to the safari destinations even on the game drives. Your tour operator will be very helpful on this, since they also have to secure a family friendly car for them.

At the destinations, make sure you and the kids adhere to the facility’s rules and guidelines. That will go a long way in giving you comfort. Have sunscreen for the daytime, East Africa can get pretty hot and of course insect repellent for night, to protect from insect bites. Have family rules for the kids, this will help you supervise the kids, especially near water or in the wild. You are with Kids, so have a first-aid kit for minor accidents and injuries.

When having the different Tanzania Safari activities, make sure they are fun and inclusive for everyone on the trip not just the kids and not just the adults. This should be sorted in the planning phase with your tour operator, because in the moment it may be hard to enforce if not planned prior. So, think of activities like afternoon game drives where the kids can let loose versus the morning when they are half awake, nature walks, scavenger hunts, tree climbing lions tracking or rhino tracking, bird sighting and watching and many more. Again, your tour operator should be in position to advise, guide and help you plan.

Make sure you have a camera to record the safari experiences and observations, kids will enjoy this, and the memories are priceless. And encourage your kids to ask the guide or guides as many questions as they have about the wild and the wildlife.

These are some of the tips we have, but as stated, you tour operator will be very helpful for you in this process.
