Map of Serengeti, Altitude & Temperature
Serengeti National Park, a large popular park for the huge herds of animals that dot the beautiful plains, is located in the northern part of Tanzania, adjacent to the Kenya border, extending into south western Kenya between 1 and 3 degrees south latitude and between 34 and 36 degrees east longitude, and northwest of the adjoining Ngorongoro conservation area. Serengeti Tours gives one an exciting experience of the wilderness, exposing one to the different ecosystems of the park.
The park is popular and receives a lot of international visitors who come for Serengeti Tours, especially for the wildebeest migration, which happens every year and can only be seen here. The park’s Latitude and longitude coordinates are: -2.333333, 34.833332. The Tanzanian national park can be placed with the GPS coordinates 2° 19′ 59.9988” S and 34° 49′ 59.9952” E in Tanzania, East Africa.
Serengeti National Park ranges from 920 m to 1850 m, an equivalent of 3,740 to 6,886ft in altitude, and is not flat land, as it may be assumed by many, but is fairly raised with some still active volcanoes.
Among these different altitude levels, one can do terrific Serengeti Tours that will enable the guest to discover the most remarkable animals, hidden in valleys or on top of beautiful rock formations. The mostly warm, dry climate is often broken by the rainy spell of March to April and the shorter rains of November to December. This gives it a general moderate and pleasant climate throughout the year.

The temperatures are usually moderate; it never gets very hot, but it is consistently cool to cold at night and in the early mornings. It is thus advisable that one carries and wears relatively light clothes for the days and warm clothes in the mornings, game drives, and evenings/nights.
Temperatures drop by about 6.5°C for every 1,000m you climb (or 3.5°F per 1,000ft), so even within the park, there are wide climatic and temperature variations.
Serengeti’s Dry season is from June to October. There are two Wet seasons. The ‘short rains’ are from November to December, and the long rains’ are from March to May. During the Wet season, it rarely rains all day, but afternoon thundershowers can be expected.
