When to go to Serengeti national park

December to March is a good time to catch the calving season in the wildebeest migration. Around February, the calving season is at its peak when over 8000 calves are born daily around the Ndutu plains. The Ndutu area is found between the southern part of Serengeti national park and the Ngorongoro conservation area. You can also enjoy seeing lions, leopards and also cheetahs during the calving season as the predators wait to prey on the wildebeests as they graze in the short grass plains. Other resident wildlife species can also be seen around the Ndutu area during safaris.

In April and May, the wildebeests can be seen around the central part of Serengeti national park which is also referred to as the Seronera area. The central part of Serengeti is also the most visited part of the national park.

June to August is also a good time to visit Serengeti national park and the wildebeest migration can be seen in the western part of the national park. The river crossings also take place during the month of July across the Grumeti river and the wildebeests also cross the Mara river.

The best time for wildlife viewing cross the various destinations in Tanzania including Serengeti national park is the dry season from June to October when during a safari wildlife species can also be spotted around water holes. For bird watching the best time to visit the national park is from November to April.
