5 Days Gorillas and Chimpanzee trekking safari is a primate safari taking you on a visit to famous habitants for primates in Uganda, this safari takes you on a visit to Bwindi impenetrable national park the home of the endangered mountain gorillas, kibale national park a home of primates like chimpanzees, golden monkey, L’Hoests monkey, baboons, white and black colobus monkeys, grey checked mangabey, red colobus, blue monkeys and Pottos. On this same safari you also get to visit bigodi swamp sanctuary which is a habitant ant to many bird species and Lake Bunyonyi which is made up of 29 islands and it is a home to many birds.

Detailed itinerary of the safari

Day 1: arrival and transfer to kibale national park

On the first day of the safari you will be picked from the your hotel by your safari driver after early morning breakfast, the safari driver will brief you about the Uganda safari and then embark on your journey to kibale national park which is a drive of 5 hours. Kibale national park a famous home for 13 species of primates such as golden monkey, L’Hoests monkey, baboons, white and black colobus monkeys, grey checked mangabey, red colobus, blue monkeys, Pottos and chimpanzees which take up the highest population. On your way you will have lunch in fort portal and then proceed to the park, upon reaching the park you will check into your lodge and in the evening you have dinner and stay overnight.

Day 2: chimpanzee tracking

On the second day of the safari you will wake up early in the morning for morning breakfast then drive to the park for a chimpanzee tracking experience, in the park you will be briefed about the experience first and then climb into forest using trails in search for primates living in kibale forests. As you walk through the forests you will encounter many primates such as chimpanzees, golden monkey, L’Hoests monkey, baboons, white and black colobus monkeys, grey checked mangabey, red colobus, blue monkeys and Pottos. You will also enjoy sights of birds and many tree species, the experience takes 2-3 hours and after your will drive back to your lodge for lunch and in the afternoon you will go for a nature walk in bigodi swamp sanctuary. Bigodi swamp sanctuary is an excellent birding site with over 137 bird species and while on your walk you will see many birds such as Great Blue Turaco and Papyrus Gonolek, White-spotted Flufftail, Yellow-spotted Barbet, Hairy-breasted Barbet, Yellow-billed Barbet, Western Nicator, Grey-winged Robin-chat, White-tailed Ant-thrush, Brown-backed Scrub-robin, Black-and-white Shrike-flycatcher, Brown-throated Wattle-eye, Superb Sunbird and many more. After the experience you will drive back to your lodge, have dinner and stay overnight.

Day 3: transfer to Bwindi impenetrable national park

On the third day of the safari you will wake up early in the morning for breakfast, checkout of your lodge and set off for Bwindi impenetrable national park which is a drive of 5 – 6 hours. Bwindi impenetrable national park is an excellent national park and a home to the endangered mountain gorillas which are habituated and open for mountain gorilla trekking. On your way to Bwindi you will drive through the ishasha sector of Queen Elizabeth national park where you can enjoy sights of tree climbing lions, you will have an en-route lunch and you are to reach the park in the afternoon. Upon reaching the park you will check into your lodge, have an afternoon of relaxation and in the evening you will have dinner and stay overnight.

Day 4: mountain gorilla trekking

On the fourth day of the safari you will wake up early in the morning for breakfast and then drive to the park’s headquarters for briefing about the mountain gorilla trekking safari with your packed lunch, at the headquarter rules and regulations concerning the activity will be ready to you, assigned the group to trek and you can hire a porter from here to. Then you will climb into the forests and with a help of a trained guide you will search for mountain gorillas which takes approximately 2-3 hours, after finding the mountain gorillas you will be allowed one hour with the mountain gorillas while taking pictures. After the experience you will descend back to the parks’ headquarters and in the afternoon you will transfer back to Lake Bunyonyi which is a drivable distance of 2-3 hours. Upon reaching the lake you will check into your lodge, have dinner and stay overnight.

Day 5: canoeing transfer back to Kampala

On the fifth day of your 5 Days Gorillas and Chimpanzee trekking safari, you will wake up early in the morning for morning breakfast, checkout of your lodge and then head to Lake Bunyonyi for a boat ride, as you ride on the calm waters of the lake you get a chance to visit some of the 29 islands in the lake and enjoy sights of birds. After the boat ride you will start on your drive to back to Kampala which is a drive of 8-9 hours, you will have an en-route lunch and when you get in Kampala you will be driven to you hotel where you will spend the night or be dropped off at Entebbe airport if you are having a late flight back to your home.
