Honeymoon Safari in Tanzania and Zanzibar
First of all, congratulations, you just made it. The rings, the vows, and maybe the party have marked the beginning of another era. An era of love and unity. But where are you going to spend your honeymoon holiday? Is a Tanzania safari the best way to celebrate this wonderful holiday? For these and all other questions, we are ready to address the elephant in the room. Read our article below for updates about a honeymoon safari in Tanzania and Zanzibar.
Honeymoon Safari in Tanzania
The mainland is all about safari. Add hiking towering mountains and exploring local cultures. Most newlyweds visiting the mainland are captivated by wildlife-rich areas, while a few crave the pristine mainland coast and islands. Here are our favorite spots to spend your honeymoon in Mainland Tanzania.
Serengeti National Park
The Serengeti is a standalone park in northern Tanzania well known for its diverse wildlife species. For many, the first thing is the annual migration, a trek of more than 1.5 million wildebeest and zebras from the south to the north. As this happens, real dramas come into play: herds giving birth to half a million wildebeest in the south, from December to March, or animals crossing the giant rivers, Grumeti and Mara, from June to October.

Nothing beats the thrill of watching large prides of lions lounging on a giant rock outcrop. The search for the Big Five is worthwhile for couples and the big cats. If you find the main crowd heavily crowded, stay in private concessions for privacy and romance. Singita Grumeti and Mwiba Reserve are great options to start with.
Kitulo National Park
This is our favorite spot for privacy and seclusion. You won’t find big game like lions, elephants, and buffalo, but we are sure you won’t regret being there. This hidden gem features a variety of vascular plants, such that it’s known as the Serengeti of Flowers. It’s home to about 45 species of orchids, which blossom from November through May.
You can get married at any time of the year, but if you want to fully enjoy the beauty of Kitulo National Park, January to February is great. The weather is appealing, with clear skies and warm temperatures. This locale is also away from the crowd. So, you will walk in the gardens, hike hills, and explore local cultures without pressure.
Ruaha National Park
If you are a fan of lesser-known destinations, include Ruaha in your safari stops. The park is Tanzania’s second largest but gets only a handful of visitors throughout the year. We can confidently say that there’s no high season. The park’s large elephant herds and majestic baobabs make it a perfect place to stop at during your honeymoon safari. You will meet undisturbed wildlife that sees fewer vehicles a year.
Ruaha also offers a lot of adventures to keep yourself busy during the day and night. Think private game drives, night safaris, balloon safaris… and our secret recipe for couples, like a boat safari along the Rufiji River and a fly camping safari experience. Want recommendations? Try Kigelia Ruaha, Jongomero, and Jabali Ridge.
Mafia Island
We know the confusion that comes with Mafia Island. Most people know it’s part of the Zanzibar Archipelago. It is not. This island is administered in the Pwani region of Tanzania, a 30-minute flight south of Dar es Salaam. The island is remote, often recording just a handful of guests yearly, but there’s untamed beauty.
If you are interested in swimming with dolphins, you’ve come to the right place. Mafia Island hosts these intelligent marine species alongside others, such as humpback whales and manta rays. November through February is always great for swimming with the whale sharks. If you don’t fear the waters, Mafia has excellent snorkel and dive locations.
Honeymoon Safari in Zanzibar

Zanzibar is all about beach holidays. This 50-island archipelago is home to white, powdered sand surrounded by azure waters. It’s a great rival to the Caribbean. Honeymooners interested in relaxing on the white sandy beaches should head to this idyllic archipelago. Here are top spots to spend your honeymoon.
Pemba Island
Pemba isn’t used to large crowds like Unguja, the main island. The island is famously known for its green landscape resulting from pristine forests and spice plantations. Here, you will enjoy quiet beaches and thriving dive sites. Pemba is a 30-minute flight straight to the north. Pemba has a few places to stay, with the Manta Resort and Fundu Lagoon being the top. If you want to go beyond ordinary, the Manta Resort offers a night sleep in the Underwater Room in the middle of the Indian Ocean.
A honeymoon holiday is a celebration after your commitment. It’s a milestone worth a break from daily hustle and bustle. At Focus East Africa Tours, we are committed to making this adventure one of a kind. Honeymoon Safari in Tanzania and Zanzibar
